Our attorneys offer clients proven technical expertise in all areas of business and commercial law. Philip A. Nicolosi founded our Rockford firm in 1948 and our roots in the community help us foster the relationships that help businesses grow. We partner effectively with clients, their lenders, and other advisors because we recognize the positive potential of collaborative working relationships.

In 1948, Philip A. Nicolosi, a newly graduated law student from the University of Illinois College of Law, began to practice law in Rockford. In addition to his growing private practice, Mr. Nicolosi served as a Winnebago County justice of the peace through out the 1960's. Mr. Nicolosi is remembered for his municipal expertise and solution-oriented approach to the practice of law. He was truly one of the gentlemen of the bar who sought out amicable solutions to legal disputes over the span of his 50 plus years in practice.

From these historic roots, Nicolosi & Associates has grown to a law firm of dedicated and respected attorneys with professional paralegal and support staff. Maintaining the tradition of family values and legal service to the community, two of Philip A. Nicolosi's sons joined the firm: Philip J. in 1985, now of counsel, and Paul S. in 1990, now managing partner. In 2002, grandson, Philip III, represented the third generation to join the firm and in 2004, Mr. Nicolosi’s son, Dr. Frank J. Nicolosi followed the tradition upon completion of law school.

Nicolosi & Associates has always paid close attention to client needs and goals, and as those needs have changed and grown, so too has the breadth and depth of our expertise. In 1992, the leadership of our real estate practice was recognized when the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) chose Nicolosi & Associates as its exclusive closing agent for Cook and the surrounding six counties. This opportunity fueled the growth of the firm’s affiliated title company, Midwest Title & Surety Agency, which became one of the largest title insurance agencies in Illinois, and later developed a national presence while gaining an increasing share of HUD’s closing business. Ultimately, Midwest Title was purchased by Stewart Title Company, and Paul Nicolosi completed his tenure as its president and CEO in 1997.

Throughout the late 1990s, the firm grew in size and stature, adding a variety of experienced attorneys to serve clients across a wide range of legal situations.
